A talk on Amalgamation
“It’s all about becoming a more well-rounded player and not a one-dimensional player.”-Peter Uihlein
It was in my chemistry class during high school. The teacher said, “Today we will learn about amalgamation.”. It piqued my interest because it was pronounced differently.
Amalgamation is a mixture of metals with mercury. But why mercury? because it is the only metal that is liquid at room temperature.
An amalgam is used to make silver fillings, extracting gold, making a dilute solution of a highly reactive metal. But why the hell am I telling you this?
You are not a chemist, you are probably never even gonna see mercury in your life. So why am I sharing this boring boring chapter about amalgamation?
Now it was in my account class during college. The professor said, “Today we will learn about amalgamation.”. It again piqued my interest because it was pronounced differently.
Here, amalgamation is a combination of two or more entities into one new entity combining all their assets and liabilities.
Companies merge when they see more benefit in bonding than battling. It reduces the shareholder's risk, increases the resources, increases the market shares, and help scale the company.
But you probably don’t care. You are not an accountant. You probably will use turbo tax for your personal income tax. So why would you even care about this freaking process of amalgamation?
Because similar to silver amalgam, we probably are the product of an amalgamated life. So why do I say that?
I will not take you now but take me for a reference. My life revolves around different aspects of life like work, finance, family, education, yata yata yata. In this process, I am a solution of mercury and every new information in these aspects of life is a mixture of metals. This life can turn out to be different from yours, and yours will certainly differ from other life around.
or, I could be partner up with someone and create a company or a family.
This is common knowledge, everyone knows that but why did I tell you this?
I was browsing my library yesterday and I realized what if I had not picked this book, or that or that? What if I did not meet this person or that? What if did not start this or that? What if I did this not that?
I probably do not know the answer. But I certainly do know what led me to this solution in life. It was because of this book, it was because of this person, It was because of this event, It was because I started this and I was certainly because I did this.
So the key takeaway from today’s class is, “What are you mixing in this solution of mercury?”
