“Don’t settle, and don’t struggle. Life is what flows in between.”- Naval Ravikant

There are three Pine trees in front of you. Big, medium, and small.

Does the tree in the middle stress out for not growing tall enough, as compared with the bigger tree? or does it settle down by becoming the taller tree, as compared with the smaller tree?

No, it will continue to grow. Depending on the environment and the potential within the tree, it will continue to grow. That is it.

Is it not perfect?

You see, you cannot even describe perfection. And yet you want to achieve perfection. I am not preaching a piece of a sermon for somebody else. I am simply exploring the vast, complex, and utter nonsense within myself.

In one of my dives, I discovered a constant struggle between the struggle to do and self-loathing for not doing.

I was becoming my own problem. I faced problems while I was trying to be productive, and I loathed myself for not spending time doing productive actions.

I was in a constant state of achievement. Always trying to come up with something to keep me stimulated with books, ideas, projects, and purpose in life. Even though it is a necessary part of me. The weight of self-improvement started to disturb my sense of peace.

On the contrary, I told my nervous system, It is not good enough. Keep pushing, keep pushing. In response, my system shut itself down into the rabbit hole of pleasure and entertainment.

Instead of one step forward, at a time. I started taking 2 steps back for every one step forward.

Buddha once said, “Desire is the root of all suffering.”

What if he is right but we misinterpreted it? Is that possible?

What if I said, “Desire makes you happy.”?

The answer is yes and no.

You see we all have desires, some want to finish college, get a romantic partner, get that 6 fig job, open a restaurant (Never do this), go on a lavish vacation, or ride alpacas in the Himalayas for all I care.

We think that that will make me happy, that destination will make me happy.

Now we get all excited and plan the possible action steps to achieve it. We take action and one at a time we reach the destination and we do what we came to do.

Now what? Did you get it?

Let me give an example, I want to take my motorcycle for a ride. I plan to visit a state park for a hike. I put on my helmet, get some necessities and start the engine. While I ride I see, trees, building, shops and deers. I reach the parking spot and switch off my motorcycle.

Did you get it yet?

The sheer pursuit of the destination made me alive, not the destination itself. It was not the parking spot that gave me happiness or a sense of achievement, but the pursuit toward that destination made me happy. That was my desire.

And you know what we all have many desires. We want to be rich, we want be healthy, and have fun with family and friends.

So? How will you pursue your desire?

The trick is, it’s never enough. You will never be content with a thing. You will never be content with your money, looks, and status. Because it was never about it. It was about the pursuit towards money, towards looks and towards status, that made us happy. Not the achievement of them.

Ask yourself, was dating more fun or when you were in a relationship?

Now, is the tree wrong to desire to grow? So why is it wrong to desire?

This is my wish & my blessing, may you find who you truly are & express it to the world.

Lots of Love, Chao.
