“If you are not hungry, you are never gonna be satisfied.”-Manoj Pun
Time is the final test. No one can stand against time. Time is the only test.
One of the benefits of getting old is to realize the importance of time. The exact time we spent chasing the minutia, we realize we could have spent it on something worthwhile. But what defines a worthwhile pursuit?
Time. Time is the true identifier of the essential.
As discussed in the Lindy effect, “ the future life expectancy of some non-perishable things, like a technology or an idea, is proportional to their current age”. It means the older the idea is, the longer it will last in the future.
For example, Ramayan will outlive Fifty shades of grey, gold will outlive any fiat currency, culture will outlive globalists, soccer will outlive esports, engineers will outlive traders (Pun intended).
Now how do we benefit from the idea of the lindy effect?
Reverse engineer your life.
Reverse engineering is the method of keeping the end in mind. Let us time travel to a time when we are in our 70’s (if you last). Who do I want to be in my 70's? What do I want to be doing in my 70's? With whom do I want to be in my 70's? Even though the details in our answers can be bizarrely different. We can all agree to be in a pleasant state. We want to be able to move without any pains in our bodies. We want to have financial security. We want to be surrounded by people who love us. And we want to have a pleasant end where we are not causing anyone trouble but rather have contributed to the generations following us. The perfect end.
Now, In order to have this perfect end, what do you expect yourself to be preparing in your 50’s, 40’s, 30’s, & 20’s?
Finding wrong Role models
The reason is because we gain in life by not pursuing who/what we want, but avoiding who/what we do not want.
The goal we want will change over time. Because the only thing that is permanent is change.
We can create whatever fancysmancy, ideals we can imagine but it will also change. So instead keep your anchor in avoiding the model you do not want in your life. As much as you love your family and friends, you do not want to be like them. It is fine, you love them but the reality can be bitter.
So you know what you do not want. Avoid catastrophic losses Physically and financially.
We, humans, have the ability to imagine the relevance of the future. Of course, we cannot predict things but we surely can expound it.
Take whatever you are doing now in my instance Ballroom. Now scale the time frame to 40 yrs. Is this skill still relevant? Another instance, learning how to cook, expound it. Is it still relevant?
Surely the future is unlike the present. But identify skills that gets better with time. The skills that ripen like the Phoenician wine.
