“The world has changed far more in the past 100 years than in any other century in history. The reason is not political or economic but technological-technologies.”

-Stephen Hawkings

It was the end of high school, I had to choose a field for College. My parents never forced me. They let me loose. They were concerned that I should get a degree irrespective of the subject. I think it came from their desire to see their son get a degree, have a job and be “Happy”.I get it, parents want their children to be happy. But they weren’t aware of the technological shift happening in these past decades and the giant leap that is gonna happen in the coming years. The world is changing itself in such a rapid pace that it is hard to keep up. Even coming from me, the kind of tectonic changes that I am gonna see is just mind-blowing. Irrespective of our opinions, AI, self-driving car, cashless society, Voice. It is gonna come. The big question is when it does what am I gonna do about it?

Why I chose CS.

I chose CS because I saw technologies as the chariots of the world. I should know how to ride the waves. I didn’t know what I was gonna do but knew I needed to be educated in programming & network connections. The basic fundamentals of electric communication.

I thought I could earn decent money in the field until it happened.

Why I choose to Leave CS

Once I understood how the world economy works, I understood the big picture. It gave me the vision to see the technological happenings in my everyday life.

Facebook, in front of me, became the dominant communication channel or Uber, in front of me became the titan of the transportation industry. These cues give us how the world is being engineered.

The market place for developers like me is starting to become a kill zone.

There is a lot of competition and the sad part is developers are been replaced by machines. Take Wix for an example, what a 4yrs degree in Web designing can make, I can do it now in 2 days and 20 dollars.

It’s so scary to see the future of automation. I think everyone needs to be aware of it.

NOW?

I have found that I now have two approaches. Compete in an existing market and be the alpha or create your own market and monopolize it. I think I see a prospect in Security & decentralization. From my understanding having proficiency in only one subject is not a good strategy to survive in this day and age. Times have changed, so should we. I think the better strategy now is to become the jack of all, but the king of none.

Wishing you the very best in your life. I wish my perspective will help you get a better one. Thank you for staying with me till the end. Chao.
